Another movie I love watching every now and then is Her. Especially with how AI has been growing and impacting our lives over the past few years. ChatGPT and other AI tools have been constantly changing and evolving. It even feels like Siri is starting to fall behind. A lot of people are saying it’s unfair how AI is taking jobs, and some even speculate that Skynet will take over—just like in the movies.

I understand that AI is, for now, simply a tool to help us get things done faster and more efficiently. I completely get the fear of AI taking over, especially when it comes to “stealing” jobs—programmers, digital artists, and more. I mean, I’m literally using ChatGPT to proofread this blog post after I finish writing it.

All that being said, Her is a beautiful movie. It’s about a guy going through a divorce and besides having a good job he likes and having people around him to talk to him, he still feels lonely until he installs and meets his new AI named Samantha, he slowly starts to feel valued and supported, eventually him and his AI fall in love. It has become somewhat of a comfort film for me—something I watch once in a while when I need a little push to keep working on my projects. A good movie about coding or technology always seems to help me get back on track.

I’m sure everyone has something similar. Another post I wrote on this topic was about the movie Ex Machina, which has a much darker take on AI compared to Her. Her feels softer and more love-focused. The colors used in the movie are fantastic. The backgrounds—and even the city where it was filmed—are stunning. I believe it was filmed in South Korea, which is why it looks so futuristic while still feeling very present at the same time.

I highly recommend watching this movie. It always brings me a sense of peace.
